I am so disappointed! I have been trying hard (seriously) to lose weight! I am drinking water like crazy, riding my bike to and from work and again after work in the evenings. Not every night but several times a week. I have cut back on portions and we are eating better. I am not making deserts and avoid candy. Well, my dear sweet hubby has lost 7 pounds and I'm still at a miserable 3 pounds! He has even eaten ice cream several times! Arghhhhh...... He told me to not get discouraged but it's so hard! I swear, MENOPAUSE HAS REEKED HAVOC WITH MY BODY AND I'M READY TO CALL DR. KAVORKIAN !! I sound like I'm PMS ing huh?
WELL, I AM!!! It pays to have a physical job rather than sitting on a hiney the size of Texas!

OH, gosh, yes, there are total advantages to having a physical job over a desk job!!!!! I really do feel your pain...
You might consider adding in some strength training - muscle burns a WHOLE lot more energy, even when it's "idling." Some small free weights and a big exercise ball will give you everything you need for a great toning & strengthening routine...
But you can do it!!! :-)
What did Dad say about the workout video I emailed info to you on? Beachbody.com has several different trainers too. I use a combination of videos from Hip Hop Abs, Turbo Jam, and Yoga Booty Ballet, and a couple of stretch videos from Tony Horton and Slim in 6 series. Chris uses Turbo Jam and the Slim in 6 abs and stretch routines (and as you know he has been losing lots of weight since he started it 2 months ago). Melissa and Deedra I know both have some of these videos too that they use. You should consider trying a program from beachbody.com. They're great! If I had to pick a favorite for me I would probably say Hip Hop Abs. But I also love Yoga Booty Ballet as well as the scuplt video and Ab Jam video from Turbo Jam. Never tried Tony Horton except for the stretch video (I got it free with the Hip Hop Abs videos I think). You gotta do exercise that is fun for you and that you don't mind doing everyday to keep at it. I have had trouble getting myself to be consistent until just about 2 months ago I determined to start exercising everyday. That works better for me cause when I tried to say I'll exercise 3-4 times a week I would always say well I'll get it in tomorrow. And then I would put if off all week and not get my exercise done. Planning for it everyday works for me. And I still get something in on Sunday too - I do a stretch/yoga video from Kathy Smith. The other thing that has helped me with consistency is getting myself on a set schedule for bed time and wake up time. I still fluctuate with that but it helps an awful lot. And I keep trying everyday to follow my schedule even if I mess up here and there. (Actually, the main reason I started a sleep and awake schedule is because of my insomnia. I found out that having a set schedule for sleep and awake greatly helps reduce insomnia and it has - I have definitely had less insomnia).
Sorry about the book. Hope it helps.
Love ya,
Tamara
Me again - totally agree with Krista. You need to have strength training at least 2 times a week to boost your metabolism so that you burn calories while you're not exercising too (that's what Chalene Johnson says - she's the one who does Turbo Jam). All the workout videos I mentioned include weight workouts with them. (Oh - if you're interested in ball workouts as mentioned by Krista - I noticed that Turbo Jam has an exercise routine that uses an exercise ball too - at beachbody.com look under choose a product and find Turbo Jam - more exciting products). Might be tough to choose between all of these. If you ever want to preview some of the videos I have to see what you might like let me know and I can come over and show you the ones I have. Melissa has some that I don't have too.
Yes, I know I need to do some strengh training. I will have to see about some type of FUN video to do. I gave Tony the info that Tammy sent but he didn't get too excited. (it's money.... and He's losing) LOL I will stick with it. Hopefully my metabolisim will kick in soon and things will change. Seriously, menopause sure makes it harder. Just wait girls! It gets harder, the older you get!
you should buy a ball and use it at work instead of your chair. I've seen lots of secretaries do this then they can work out while they are at work. everyone should bring their videos up to the cabin and we can work out together like last year. Tamera I would love to try your hip hop abs video.
Don't worry he will platue eventually. THen you will be the one losing faster. j/k Tony
Oh and one other thing.... to keep positive don't think about how many pounds you are losing, but how much heart stregth you are gaining! I know you're way ahead of me.
don't give up-
maybe you should try some weight exercises to get you past this plateau- use some free weights or something. Different exercises can start the weight loss again if you have come to a stand still. and remember- guys just get lucky!
You could do what I did and use birthday money to get some workout videos. Just an idea - spend your b-day money however you want of course ;-)
OH YEAH, I'VE GOT MY BIRTHDAY MONEY SPENT ON A DYSON HAND VACUMN!! I'LL EXERCISE CLEANING MY STAIRS. LOL
I'm not giving up! I'll just hang in there and see what happens. I'll try other things too.
Wow, I didn't know there was such a great support group for weight loss out there! Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm in the same boat. Derek loses weight tons faster than I do. And I do get discouraged so easily when I weight myself and find that all the hard work I've put in hasn't seemed to make much difference (at leaast I may be gaining muscle but still weighing the same). So I've promised myself not to weigh myself for a long, LONG time and just to work on feeling better, having more energy and fitting into my clothes better. . .or finally NOT fitting to my clothes but having to get new clothes for my new slim and sexy shape. . .yeah in my dreams. :)
