NORTON REUNION 2008

  • This year's Norton Family Reunion was held at the cabin at Cascade and it was fun as usual! We ATE.....3 squares a day!!! Not a real good time for the diet but all the meals were wonderful! KUDO'S to all of us for preparing such good meals.

We swam and boated and jet skied. Some of us even bathed in the lake. (Well Jess, to be specific) He was at the lake as early as 3AM to take a bath. I caught him one morning leaving right after his morning ritual. The water was wonderful and several of us swam across the lake and back. Tony and I, along with Blake and Alivia paddled the canoe across while Nate, Melissa, Emmy, Jess and Diane swam across. After reaching the other side, Diane and Nate got in and paddled the boat while Tony and I and Blake joined Melissa, Emmy and Jess for the swim back across to the cabin side. I don't know how those who swam both ways did it!! I was exhausted and the last to reach shore. Even Blake made it with no problem! Great job everyone!!

We did a lot of swinging ...... Most always the kids did the swinging as parents pushed them but occasionally a parent or young adult was seen swinging too.

The big project this year (for the men) was to take the deck apart and redo it. You can see in this picture how the boards are sagging because the support underneath was rotted and broken away. The men had to take all the boards off, replace the support underneath and then put all the boards back on. BIG JOB!
Here are a couple of good looking men on the construction crew! It was hot and they all worked hard but always had smile's on their faces!

This is the deck after removing all the top boards. You can see the beams that were broken underneath.

Nate......always in the middle of things. LOL

The mothers and kiddies had a good time playing while the men worked away. There were a couple of neighborhood dogs that like to have sticks thrown so here Garrett is throwing a pretty good sized piece of wood for the dog. He was pretty proud of himself after the dog fetched it and brought it back to him.

What a great shot of Jess! He really put his backside into his work!! Never a dull moment when Jess is in the picture! LOL

Putting the final screws into the new deck! Yay! It's done and it looks great! Dad was so happy to have it completed and appreciated all the work the men put into it! However, even with his broken leg and broken arm, he was out on the deck working right along side of the guys! What a Man! He can't sit still to save himself! He's an example to all of us!!
It was a great time and we were able to accomplish some needed work as well as have fun in the sun! We only wish all of you could have been here. Maybe next year you can all make it to the Berezay Reunion in July! Plan ahead!!!

I was wondering what happened with the "back porch needs fixing" item... thanks for posting the project - wish we could've gotten up there a few days earlier! :-)
