JACK'S SURGERY

Yesterday, little Jack had a surgery on a hernia around his belly button.  Deedra had asked if I could come to the hospital when he was ready to come home because they asked that someone be in the backseat with him on the ride home. (Anesthesia and all)  I said I'd be happy to. Tony was home and we had a meeting with Mom, Debbie and Kevin Poulsen at 11 AM and Jacks surgery was at 11AM so it would work out nicely. Deedra texted me this picture  as Jack was ready to go into the surgery. (which ended up being around noon because the doctor was in a surgery previously that went a little long.) It worked out well for me getting there on time. lol  Little did we know I was way ahead of schedule.
Tony took me to the hospital and we went in and waited with Deedra for a while and then the doctor came in and said the surgery went well and Jack was being taken to recovery. Tony left at that time because he had come down with a bad cold and didn't want to be there any longer. The doctor took Deedra back to recovery and I went back to the waiting room. I had my crocheting with me so I kept my hands busy!

Around 1:30 a nurse came and got me and told me I could go back to recovery. When I got there, they were cleaning up Jack. He was sick to his stomach and not feeling well at all. They had given him a little Apple Juice and it didn't want to stay down. Poor little guy was miserable. The nurse said we couldn't go home till he was feeling better. So, after resting, Jack tried a little more Apple Juice and up it came again. So the nurse came in and gave him a little dose of fentanyl in his IV. She said it would make him drowsy but that it usually helped to keep the food down. Well, it definitely made Jack drowsy. He went to sleep and we waited and waited................and waited!
Around 6:30 in the evening, Deedra and I were starving and decided we would go to the cafeteria and get a bite to eat. Jack started to wake up and the nurse asked if he would eat a cracker and some chicken broth. He said yes, so we went to the cafeteria while Jack nibbled on crackers. We didn't know if he was going to be able to keep it down or not and the nurse said they would have to admit him to a room for the night if he couldn't. We ate a piece of pizza and then went back to Jack and found him alert and watching Cartoon Network and ready to leave. We got him dressed and we were able to go home. After getting him home and resting comfortably on the couch, Tony came and got me and I was home by 8 or so. LOL,
Little did we know......Deedra had planned to have a birthday party for Charlotte at 6 or 6:30 that evening. Obviously, it was canceled. However, today is another day so a birthday party it will be! So glad Jack is feeling better!
