This picture was taken last October when we visited the kids. Rick and Wendy and Kate as well and Jeff and Christa.
This past Monday, my brother Rick called from Astoria to inform us that his wife Wendy had to be taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. They removed a 4 centimeter large tumor. She also had to have some of her intestine and colon removed. The Dr. said he was almost positive it was cancerous. We waited for the results and Rick kept us informed via the e-mail throughout the week as to Wendy's progress. Ricks last email Friday was as follows: Wendy has been released from the hospital and is now home. We met with the surgeon who has been in communication with OHSU lab doctors where the test were conducted on the tumor. As the doctor said "I have a little bit of bad news but a whole lot of good news" The tumor was cancerous but here's the good news. I'll try to explain it as simply as possible (never was much for medical terms) GOOD NEWS: *the tumor was contained in a sack produced by Wendy's system. Because of this, her body was retaining the cancer within this sack. * The bullet point above was confirmed when her nodes (over 20) ...I had no idea there was that many in our bodies) came back showing all negative (no cancer). This is a big deal the doctor stated! * The verbal results given to the doctor was that Wendy is a T2 opposed to a T3 which the latter would result in having to have Chemo performed. We haven't looked it up yet but the Doc wrote down this name so we could do a search on the "WEB" which explains in a little more detail what he was describing. He spelled it out as "Adenocarcinoma Colon T2. This is such great news, a huge relief! She has an appointment Monday with the surgeon to have her staples removed. We're hoping we'll continue to hear positive news as additional information comes back from the lab. Again, we truly appreciate each of you! We have both felt the peace and reassurance from on High that all would be fine. Thank you for your prayers. The doctor and nurses continually were making comments about how well she was progressing during the week. I too was amazed at how she looked. I can't help but think how much the hand of the Lord has been involved here. Not just last week but even before this, when the tumor began and had been growing. Four centimeter is large and how this cancer was sealed off by a sack that grew around it. The doctors may have their theories, but to me, I would say it is noting short of a miracle! Take care everyone! I was so thankful to get this email from Rick. I am grateful to our Heavenly Father for his wonderful blessings and I agree with Rick. It was nothing short of a miracle! | |
